Guidelines for Germinating Seeds

Germinating seeds in late winter or early spring is always an exciting project for gardeners.

Being enthusiastic about germinating seeds is great. But if you want your seedlings to be healthy and in good condition for planting outdoors at the right time, do the following:

Check on the back of the packet to see how many weeks it takes from the time the seeds are planted to when they’re ready to be transplanted outdoors. Be sure to know the last frost date for your growing zone. If a packet says that it takes 10 weeks for seeds to mature, count backwards from your last frost date. The date you end up with is when you should plant the seeds.

This is one of those instances where following instructions can make the difference between success and failure.
